Never buy a Reliance Telcom product

I had applied for Reliance Netconnect plus wireless internet service on 23rd of March. And that was the last day for getting the 2 month bundled unlimited usage (10GB) free; that is worth Rs 3500. The next day I have got a call from RCOM that I am eligible for this offer. The official also asked me if I would like to see a demonstration of the wireless device. I said yes and after seeing the demo, at my home, I agreed to purchase this. I paid Rs 3500 to the dealer for the device on 04/04/2009. I got the device and connection was enabled. Everything was good.

The problem begins. Contrary to my belief that I'll get Rs 0 bill for the first two months, at end of the first month I have got a bill, of Rs 383, from RCOM. The bill amount should have been Rs 0. I have registered a complaint with them. I haven't got any response. Instead I am getting regular calls from RCOM for non payment of bills. Every time I get a call I tell them the full story. And each official agreed to resolve my issue.

Now one day I planned to visit my native place, Jaipur, to meet my parents. I was hoping that my business/work will not suffer because I can work remotely using the device I purchased from RCOM. I reached Jaipur and discovered that my internet is not working. I called up the toll free number of RCOM (1 800 3000 5555) and learnt from the official that my connection is deactivated due to non payment of bill. @#$#$%&%. I also learnt that a new bill is also generated for the second month. The second bill is of Rs 1125. Again the bill amount should have been Rs 0. I again registered a complained. I was told that the problem will be resolved in 24 hours.

I had registered my grievance at the Consumer Online Resource & Empowerment Centre (http://www.ccccore.co.in/ or http://www.core.nic.in/). Let's see what happens.

My Blogs Freed

My blogs (http://pragatisheel.blogspot.com) and (http://lifedrill.blogspot.com) have been freed. Blogger's automatic robot thought that my blog is a spam and locked it. Today I got a mail saying this,

sign back in again, you should be able to post as normal. Thanks for your
patience, and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Thank God. Earlier I was thinking that the blog is now gone. And I'll have to think another name and start using it.

Yahoo Pipes Feed Aggregator

I have aggregated all my blogs using Y! Pipes and am displaying it using a perl script at http://jangid.freeshell.org/blog.shtml. Strange but the feeds are working fine although my two blogs have been blocked by blogger because it thinks that my blogs were spam. There feeds are still available at http://pragatisheel.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default and http://lifedrill.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default respectively.

I also updated my Home page at Freeshell to include Google Adsense.

Safari Experience

I am using Safari (the browser) for the first time and first impression is really good. The font rendering is much better then IE or Firefox on MS Windows XP.

The way it shows pop-up alerts is also good. It's animated very nicely.

The bad thing is that it is not a Free Software. :(

Google added a PPT viewer to GMail. It is a nice feature. Now I don't need to download the file and transfer it to windows to view it using MS Office.

It works very well. Not like open office that doesn't convert/show files correctly.

Switched Back to Good Old Yahoo

After about six months of trial I finally decided to switch back to the original Y! interface. During last six months I was waiting if they improve it to make it as easy to use as gmail but to no gain.

Old Y! is much more closer to current gmail in terms of usability. At least I use only that much of gmail.

Saw this movie twice and I liked the way it presents the Gandhian philosophy of Ahimsa and Satyagrah. But when I was seeing the movie I was thinking that someone will surely challenge the movie for the modified Vande Mataram song (Vande Mataram, Bande mein tha dum).

Well that didn't happen. But suddenly 2-3 days back I was a news on Aaj Tak that some NSUI (the student organization supported by Congress) students in some city (I don't remember which) gathered and demanding that the word "Gandhigiri" be removed from movie.

While watching the movie I didn't even realize that this word is doing any harm to sentiments of people or showing disrespect to the Bapu. But then when I saw the news footage about the NSUI people, I realized that they were not even serious in agitation...they were just laughing and making fun. I hope this was just to attract media and not to really ban the movie.
